JUSTICE RICHARD DIETZ
Richard Dietz is an associate justice of the Supreme Court of North Carolina. He joined the Supreme Court in 2023 after serving eight years as a judge on the North Carolina Court of Appeals.
As a judge, Justice Dietz has heard thousands of appeals and distinguished himself by writing thoughtful opinions that are concise and easy for the public to read and understand.
As a lawyer, he was a renowned appellate expert arguing cases across the country including in the U.S. Supreme Court. He is the only board-certified specialist in appeals on the Supreme Court.
Justice Dietz graduated first in his class from Wake Forest University School of Law and earned a master’s degree from Duke University School of Law. He also worked as a research scholar at Kyushu University School of Law in Japan.
